University Intake: Pain or Gain?
Please select your language.
Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) had just released the list of all public universities intake. Guess all STPM students must have waited until their neck elongated (is there such a description?) Well, by now after checking the list, some will be delighted while some will be like facing the end of the world.
For those with good results in STPM (marks >3.8), chances of getting their dream course and dream university are very high. For those with average results, they can still get their 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th choice if they are lucky. Anyway, life at university will be different especially for those who are going to universities far away from home. Put in simple terms, expect culture shock! =p
For those whose dream come true, congratulations and press on to achieve greater during your university years. Be humble and always seek opportunities to excel in all aspects. University life is really short, don’t waste your time on games. Instead focus on 2 main things, academic performance and soft skills development. You will need the latter to succeed in later stage of life. =)
For those who can’t be accepted for local tertiary education, or not given the wanted course. DO NOT GIVE UP! This is just a small part of life. Not getting what you want now doesn’t mean that you will be a failure for the rest of your life. Instead, focus on your strength and constantly seek development. Your effort now will pay off when you look back and smile a few years later. If you still lost, confused and down, go do this test. You will be glad to know how special you really are.
For those who are still sad, allow me to share my story with you. 5 years ago, I was a biology student. That time i dreamed of taking up biotechnology but soon I realized I got civil engineering instead of what I love. Still I proceed with an an open mind, exploring possible opportunities available to me. During these 5 years I developed new skills and insights and right now I pick what I like - Environmental Engineering. Though the majority part is still physics but at least I get to do what I enjoy. =)
For those who are entering Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), you may find this site helpful. It is from my juniors who are always passionate to help freshmen. Let out your fear and doubt, ask whatever you want to know. Just do it! =)
I do not have any regrets, and you can too!
