Happy 50th National Day to all Malaysian! This time the country has given us 2 special gifts - Southern Johor Economic Region (SJER) and Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER). It is hope that through this 2 mega project the economy could be lifted to a new height.
“Negarakuku” may be creative but it brings out many issues. To really sum up what we Malaysian have really gone through for the last 50 years, I would recommend people to check out the new meaningful commercial advertisement by Petronas. That commercial is about an aging old man (Man) who wanted to quit from his boat building career to pursue a better life. The employer (Tuan Haji) gave the Man the final order, that was to make a new boat while he supplied everything that the Man needed. In the attempt to rush for work so that he could finish the work on time, Man actually took a shortcut by building the boat from broken pieces, and pasted leakages with new parts instead of replacing the entire piece of wood, hoping that Tuan Haji wouldn’t notice the opportunistic effort. At the end of the day, the boat was constructed on time. To the Man’s surprise, Tuan Haji returned the boat to the Man and handed a new boat engine to him as a gift from an old friend. Just when the Man thought of making a living with the gift, his boat was already half submerged upon his return to the pier.
I like the last statement: CAN WHAT WE BUILD TODAY TAKE US INTO TOMORROW. This is really the feel from the bottom of many hearts. Tuan Haji symbolized the British colonial government, Man symbolized the leaders of our country and the boat symbolized Malaysia.
Are we really fit to continue our journey into tomorrow? Are we really doing our part in keeping the country running progressively? I don’t really have an answer for that. What we achieve tomorrow is totally dependent on what we decide today. So, in lieu with the national day celebration, I sincerely hope that everyone could really reflect upon this matter, reflect upon our destiny and future, so that national day is not just something for one to relax, have fun and enjoy only.
Again, happy 50th National Day to all Malaysian! Long live Malaysia! I’m proud to be a Malaysian!
