Found this one at Giving Hands and the post brought up some of my past memories. Anyway past is past and what we need to know is that the population of those animals listed in the endangered species list is critically low. I’m not a biologist, ecologist or forestry scientist therefore can’t write much about it but I strongly believe that this kind of awareness needs to be instilled in the minds of our young generation so that the campaign will have a long lasting positive impact to our innocent friends who were here much earlier and longer than we could imagine.

There are only 2 reason why those friendly creatures face extinction: illegal hunting and destruction of habitat. About the illegal hunting issue, as long as there is a market demand for the animal parts (which I think owning those won’t impress anyone at all, maybe I’m not into the so called “society” yet)there will always be a source of supply. This we would have to really depend on the authority to prevent tragedy from repeating again and again.

Due to fact we are the main factor why the environment is in such a pathetic stage today, we can actually do much regarding the issue of destruction of habitat. Though the primary cause is illegal logging and land development, the effects of man made pollution can never be underestimated at all. Learn how to dispose your waste properly. Our government doesn’t provide the 3 colour recycle bins for fun. Though this might seem like a tiny action with no significance to many but by properly disposing your waste, you are directly cutting down the cost of waste collection, waste separation, waste treatment and ultimately final waste disposal. That amount of money could then be diverted to more R&D or conservation programs. It is understandable that the adults (40++ years old) couldn’t care much due to lack of environmental education in those days but it is totally unforgivable to see young students throwing plastic bags out of the window of a school bus, and the parents dumping rubbish everywhere while the children trying to stop their parents only to receive some scolding in the end.

You can get all related facts and figures at Giving Hands. Support this campaign. Put the banner on your site and spread the word. The awareness will only exist if more and more people are talking about it, constantly reminding themselves of the animals and how people could do something to save those beings from disappearing permanently.

Save the environment. Save the animals. Save yourself.
