Online Money Making Tips - Part 1

Apr-21-2008 By ColourfulWorld

I have to declare a few things before I proceed:

  • I’m no expert in making a lot of money from the Internet. This is just a beginner’s tips towards earning some extra bucks. If you need real expert guidance, kindly look for other resources.
  • I’m writing from my point of view and the contents are generally for people living in Asia.
  • I share my ideas honestly so I’ll be letting you know which one are my referral links. Should you proceed with my recommendation, you may choose to / not to register using my links.

You see people showing ads from third party ad network. Some earn very fast while some are like me, earning very slow. SO HOW DO THESE PEOPLE EARN MONEY from online advertising? For publishers, most technical jargons can be skipped except CPC and CPM.

CPC (Cost Per Click) as the name suggests, is the amount of commission given to the publisher for triggering a clicking action on the ads that leads to the advertisers’ website / portal.  CPM (Cost Per Mille) on the other hands, is the amount of commission given to the publisher for showing / exposing the ads to 1000 visitors. The difference between CPC and CPM is that CPC is a active process for it requires user triggered actions while CPM is a pasive process without the need for user actions. According to recent studies, it is identified that sites with more regular readers tend to have lower click rates. Therefore traffic (which I’m working hard to get) is a very important factor for one to gain benefit from CPM method. If you really need to learn more, please refer to wikipedia for more answers.

I have to highlight CPC here for it is the main trouble for publisher to be banned from hosting the ad codes by various ad companies. Since clicking is the only way to calculate the commissions, almost every ad companies have developed their unique detection algorithms to detect fraud clicks, clicks which are fabricated / fake / non-genuine to protect the interest of the advertisers. Many factors will be taken into consideration. IP tracking, user behavioral studies, content-item relevancy, traffic sources, search engine organic activities are some of the few methods to detect fraud clicks. So please don’t think of clicking your own ads no matter how interested or related they are, for such actions might be interpreted as attempt to fool the ad service provider. Clicking on the ads at the site that you visit directly and regularly without going through search activities might risk the site owner being accused and mistreated for fraud clicks.  We’ll talk about companies providing ad hosting services on next post.
