Well, since Windows Live Messenger 8.5 was released, users who had a clean install of that version on earlier versions of windows platform particularly Windows XP SP2 without enabling the automatic update option face installation problem. The installer will require that Windows Update Agent 5.8.02469 be installed first before complete installation could proceed.
Note: This is not meant for Windows Vista and other 64bit OS.
Well, the good news is I manage to find some nice solution. All you need to do is to follow the instruction and your Windows Live Messenger will be ready in no time.
I have the EASY way and the HARD way for you guys but then let’s proceed to the HARD way first so that you could later appreciate the EASY way. =)
Step 1 (HARD):
Download WLM installer from http://get.live.com/messenger/overview
Step 2 (HARD):
Download and install WUA 5.8.02469 from http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.0.6000.381/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
Right now most of you will be able to proceed with the installation. For those who still can’t, please proceed with Step 3.
Step 3 (HARD):
Download Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en
Now the EASY way…
Step 1 (EASY):
Download WLM 8.5 Package here and extract all 3 files into a temporary folder. After that install WUA, install windows installer KB893803 if Live Messenger is still not working. When you are done with those 2 files, you can install WLM with ease.
By the way, I have a nice tool to recommend to those who are using WLM. It is Messenger Plus! Live. This tool comes in handy for those who require extra feature and customization such as tabbed chats, customs sounds, personalized status and multiple messenger instance. The latest version is 4.50. You can download it here.
Well, that’s all. Everything is as simple as ABC. If you encounter any problem do let me know.
