Music + Science + Technology = Thummer

Introducing the Thummer, the revolutionary device by Thumtronics that could revolutionize the way music is being played. It is said to reduce the learning difficulty of music and you can use it to play any type of musical instrument you want. Well, don’t wanna describe more about the funny looking device, in fact I don’t know how to describe at all. Simple yet complex maybe?
I learned piano before but after years of abandonment I’m just a dumbass in front of the elegant instrument. Like any other musical instruments, the learning process requires a lot of practice until you can master the required skills but from the various videos uploaded by Jim Plamondon, the musical performance using Thummer is fairly simple and easy to learn. With the motion sensing ability, it can generate sounds which could all the while be heard only through the “genuine” musical instruments. The gadget is currently available in the US only so I’m not sure when music lovers in Malaysia can actually have a touch of it. Right now the company is actively seeking funding from investors as we speak. I guess that is the reason why the marketing elements are so obvious in all the clips. Hopefully they can market it around the world in no time and bring a new wave of musical evolution.
Honestly, functionalities aside, I think the Thummer is ugly and lack of artistic appearance. I wonder how Carlos Santana, Kenny G, Kitaro, Vanessa Mae and Jim Brickman would look like playing the Thummer on stage? LOL…

Honestly, I don’t really like the outlook of this instrument too.. didn’t have the elegant beauty of an instrument.. What’s more is that it also bury the techniques and skills of expressing and playing an instrument (which of course beginners will felt difficult with, to want to master immediately)and the missing of the kind of “emotional feel”/human touch I’d say (coz u just press the key?), but these are the things that awed and touched the heart of the audience, I think.
However, now beginners can have fun and do not need to work till hair grows grey to play like a pro! Music leaners can master the chords easier too (because of the arrangement of the key in the thummer). And maybe for the composers they might able to compose or even come out with new elements in music, all in just a small thummer.
Who knows? Maybe this will become the instrument of next generation.
